What Makes Mānuka Honey Pure?

There are several key factors that drive Mānuka honey quality and purity. To anyone who’s just discovered Mānuka honey, it’s entirely understandable that you think there’s no difference between this and shelf-bought honey from the supermarket. However, that is not the case.

Firstly, Mānuka honey is typically categorised into two categories - monofloral and multifloral varieties. Monofloral Mānuka honey is sought after as it refers to honey that is produced from JUST ONE species of flower nectar - the Mānuka flower. Pure Mānuka honey can only be attained with monofloral varieties as the other species found in multifloral kinds will not have the same concentration of unique ingredients.

How Does Primal by Nature Ensure Only Monofloral Mānuka Honey Is Produced?

Primal by Nature works tirelessly to provide our customers with nothing short of 100% pure New Zealand Mānuka honey. Our extensive testing and rigorous standards ensure that every single jar of our honey is raw, monofloral and, most importantly - primal. As an arm of Midlands Apiaries, we ensure all of our products are tested within a state-of-the-art laboratory before our stock is sent to external companies to verify our products.

Additionally, all of our products have the coveted “Made in New Zealand” stamp of approval from the New Zealand Government. This sigil represents approval from New Zealand as a product produced and made in New Zealand, and as such, requires extensive verification. Monofloral Mānuka honey, specifically, has a scientific definition that has been established by the Ministry of Primary Industries.

What Are The Features Of Mānuka Honey That Make It Pure?

While all honey possesses a distinctive taste, monofloral Mānuka honey boasts a range of tones and notes when the honey hits the tongue. Its earthy flavour is more subtle compared to the conventional honey types, such as clover, making it a decadent treat. Moreover, Mānuka honey has a subtle creaminess that is much more prominent than multifloral variations.

This unique gift from nature tantalises the taste buds with its heavenly flavour, offering nutty notes along with a hint of bitterness, creating a layered experience of sweetness and earthy tastes. As the strength of Mānuka honey increases, higher grades of the Unique Mānuka Factor (UMF™) and stronger methylglyoxal (MGO) cause the honey to become visibly darker.
